Coach x Jean-Michel Basquiat

A special collection honoring the visionary artist.

Artist collaborations can be a tricky business. When Coach partnered with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, we knew we had to approach the collaboration with care and respect for his legacy. We also wanted to share his work and ethos with a new generation during a critical moment in the national conversation around race.

So we assembled a cast of creatives with a genuine affinity for Basquiat’s work, and we let them do the talking. In a series of interviews, Jennifer Lopez, Michael B. Jordan, Paloma Elsesser, Jon Batiste, Kyemah McEntyre and Jessica Kelly spoke about Basquiat’s place in the pantheon of great artists, his revolutionary style, and the ways he continues to inspire creators today.

Then, we took the best quotes (and of course, the best photos) and tiled them together in a site experience that married product and storytelling.

We also worked archival imagery, artwork, quotes and quick-hit art history explainers into the site experience…

…And took the story to email too, where we set the stage for the campaign while always tying it back to our product.
